China Presses Netherlands to Settle Dispute Over Chipmaker Nexperia

(MENAFN) China issued a sharp rebuke Thursday, pressing the Netherlands to settle an escalating dispute over chipmaker Nexperia after a Dutch court mandated an investigation into the firm and maintained its chief executive's suspension.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian attributed the controversy to what "lies in the Dutch side's improper administrative intervention within the company's operations," media reported.

The statement followed Wednesday's ruling by the Enterprise Chamber of Amsterdam's appeal court, which ordered a probe into Nexperia's operations and upheld the suspension of CEO Wing Zhang, according to documentation posted on the Dutch judiciary's official website.

Beijing "believes that the Dutch side should promptly facilitate the resolution of internal disputes within the company and create favorable conditions for maintaining the stability and smooth operation of the global semiconductor production and supply chains," Lin stated.

He emphasized: "China will continue to support Chinese enterprises in safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests."

Nexperia, a semiconductor manufacturer operating as an international arm of Chinese firm Wingtech Technology Co., fell under Dutch government control in late September amid concerns over potential technology transfers to Wingtech. The Netherlands activated rarely-used emergency powers under the Availability of Goods Act to execute the takeover.

The intervention—blocking management actions perceived as threats to Dutch and European security—materialized after US warnings regarding Nexperia's Chinese connections.

Wingtech characterized the Dutch government's actions as "excessive interference driven by geopolitical bias."
